Behind the Scenes of My Latest Podcast Interview
Recently, I had the pleasure of joining a podcast to talk about my journey as an author and the inspiration behind The Midwife Chronicles. Although the idea of recorded interviews still makes me a bit nervous, I enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on how this writing adventure began—and where it’s headed next.
My love for Jane Austen and several trips to England eventually nudged me toward historical fiction. A visit to Bath, followed by time spent in the English countryside, sparked the idea for my first novel, The Midwife of Normandy. From there, the series grew into a much larger project than I ever expected. I’ve always believed that history deserves accuracy, so I rely heavily on research, timelines, and authentic period detail.
During the interview, I also spoke about the challenges of self-publishing—book covers, marketing, and the learning curve that comes with both. Each step has been rewarding, and I continue to grow along the way.
We also discussed my current work-in-progress, Book Four: Jacques’ Fateful Journey, which will complete the series by exploring Jacques Dupres’s missing years. It has been emotional and gratifying to shape the final chapter of this long story.
For new writers, I offered advice that has guided me:
• Choose subjects that genuinely fascinate you.
• Learn what you can about self-publishing.
• Find a supportive group or partner to walk beside you.
